In
1950 a Dutch hotel manager convinced an Indian family to build a hotel with
a British name and decor. The family accepted this advice, and to this day,
Claridges has a loyal following--many of them fussy, long-term visitors who
appreciate the hotel's old-fashioned charm. The lobby is charming: one side
has British Victorian decor; the other side evokes an Indian courtyard. The
carpeted bedrooms are large and have Victorian furnishings with either twin
beds or a double bed.
